Large Signed Barbedienne Antique French Bronze Sculpture of the Venus de Milo

About the Item

A fine antique bronze sculputre. Depicting the Venus de Milo. After the ancient model by Alexandros of Antioch. Bearing an Achille Collas reduction seal and a Barbedienne mark. Published in France at the end of the 19th Century by Ferdinand Barbedienne. Ferdinand Barbedienne was a renowned French founder, whose lifespan and career encompassed much of the 19th century. He is credited (in connection with Achille Collas) with democratizing the collecting of sculpture throughout Europe. Barbedienne’s casts were always of extremely high quality, and these sculptures continue to be highly coveted today. The reduction of Venus de Milo after Alexandros of Antioch is purportedly amongst the earliest collaborative efforts of Collas and Barbedienne. Simply a wonderful, high-quality large scale Barbedienne sculpture! Date: 19th Century Overall Condition: It is in overall good, as-pictured, used estate condition with some rubbing to the patina, some light edge wear, and some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
