Signed Gaspar Mascagni Alabaster Figural Lamp, Italian, c. 1900
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Rare antique Italian alabaster figural lamp signed by sculptor Gaspar Mascagni, circa early 20th century. This hand-carved neoclassical sculpture lamp features a seated maiden in flowing robes with intricate detail, softly illuminated by a domed alabaster globe. The translucent alabaster shade creates a warm, ambient glow when lit. A stunning example of Italian Art Nouveau/Art Deco crossover lighting, this piece exemplifies traditional Florentine craftsmanship and early electric-era sculpture lighting. Crafted in soft ivory-toned alabaster, the lamp stands approximately 34 inches tall. The figure is seated on a rock-form base with a visible artisan’s chisel work, bearing the signature “G Mascagni” incised on the rear. The lamp base shows natural wear consistent with age, including a small chip and a fine hairline on the shade. Original wiring should be updated for modern safety. This lamp is ideal for collectors of antique lighting, sculpture lamps, Italian decorative arts, and early 20th-century neoclassical décor.
