About the Item

A fine original lifesize signed Goldscheider hand painted terracotta figure of a young Black child wearing knickers, a jacket and a cap. Vienna 1890's The young African American boy is seated with hands folded in his lap on an antique wicker chair in a genre setting. The Goldscheider factory with it's founding father Friedrich Goldscheider, was one of the finest and influential factories of faience, majolica, terracotta, and ceramics spanning three generations in different countries from 1885 until the 1960's. Many of their creations which won prestigious awards at world fairs and exhibitions As a leading ceramic manufactory in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Goldscheider collaborated with gifted artists who excelled in Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles.
