Limousin Art Deco Sculpture "Woman and Her Two Dogs", circa 1930s

About the Item

Limousin Art Deco sculpture named "A Woman and her Two Dogs" was created circa 1930s. This very attractive sculpture by the French Art Deco master sculptor Jacques Limousin, circa 1930s, depicts a young elegant lady with her two dogs by her side and resting on a stone wall with a large bird perched on her right hand. The dogs and the lady are made from spelter with the exception of her head and hands which are in Ivorine (Ivorine is a synthetic substance made from cellulose nitrate and often used in conjunction with spelter by many prominent Art Deco sculptors). The base is made from a mottled marble sandwiched between two thin black marble sheets. At either end are stainless steel inserts (both have buckled slightly with time). There are some small chips on the base consistent with age. There are a couple very light surface scratches on the top black layer of marble. There is small crack in the centre marble layer. We consider this sculpture to be in very good condition despite these very minor imperfections. The sculpture is engraved with the artist's signature 'Limousin' on the base. Marble base dimensions only: Width: 31.125" (79 cm) Depth: 4.625" (11.75 cm) Height: 1.75" (4.45 cm) Total height: 15.5" (39.4 cm) Lady dimensions only: Height: 13.65" (34.7 cm) Width: 16.7" (42.5 cm) Depth: 4.7" (12 cm) Right dog dimensions: Length: 10.67" (27.1 cm) Height: 5.55" (14.1 cm) Left dog dimensions: Length: 9.6" (24.4) cm Height: 5.95" (15.1) cm Weight: 35.7 lbs (16.2 kilos)
