About the Item

An exceptional and high-quality Large Murano glass sculpture titled Two Faces by renowned Italian maestro Loredano Rosin (1936–1992), executed circa 1984. This striking work is masterfully crafted in Rosin’s signature calcedonio glass, a swirling, semi-translucent material infused with silver nitrate to create the delicate, agate-like striations for which he is celebrated. The composition is centered by two mirrored stylized heads, rendered in elongated oval profiles and delicately etched to evoke subtle emotional expression. Rising from a polished black glass base, a pair of clear massello-formed hands gracefully support the dual visages, creating an ethereal contrast between transparency and opacity. Born in Venice, Rosin trained under Romano Zanelli and Cocui Saor before becoming a master glassblower at the prestigious Salviati & Co., where he collaborated with such legendary figures as Marc Chagall and Pablo Picasso to translate their visions into glass. He later founded his own studio, working alongside his brothers Mirko and Dino Rosin to push the expressive boundaries of Murano glass. Two Faces reflects both Rosin’s technical virtuosity and his deep engagement with classical ideals, rendered through a modern, sculptural lens. Signed “Loredano Rosin” and bearing the Murano consortium seal, this rare and poetic piece exemplifies Rosin’s refined aesthetic and enduring legacy. His work is held in esteemed institutions including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, making this sculpture a remarkable addition to any collection of 20th-century Murano glass or contemporary European art.
