About the Item

This rare and extremely well executed bronze statue was done by the highly renowned French artist Marcel Andre Bouraine in circa 1925 in the period Art Deco style. This bronze is known as 'Dancing Girl' and depicts a stylized female figure with a ruffled dress which she is holding one end of the skirt next to her face. The facial features and hair of this bronze are done in a cubist style and the dress is decorated in stylized flowers which are done in a silvered finish. The bronze stands on one foot on a stepped onyx base, which in turn sits on a dark brown plinthe. The bronze itself is signed 'Bouraine' in script on the back of one foot and again on the top of the onyx base as "A Bouraine". This very rare example of a Bouraine lighted bronze is in completely original condition, showing a nicely aged patina and original mounting brackets to the solid bronze figure itself, and light fixture on the base.
