About the Item

Medium Totem Carbon by Maxence De Bagneux Dimensions: D 33 x H 200 cm Materials: Stoneware, burnt laminated wood. Maxence de Bagneux has devoted his free time since childhood to his passion for learning and practicing the plastic arts and architecture. In 2001, after studying applied arts and obtaining a diploma in interior architecture at the Camondo School in Paris, he set off on a voyage of discovery to the heart of Asia's arts and crafts. Back in France and Normandy, where he was born, he decided to create what he calls "Useful Sculptures", in which they interact with the environment and showcase different skills. In this project, he combines stoneware and wood in a series of Totems that are both decorative and playful, with references to Brancusi and Sottsass, but also, and above all, constructions that can be modulated to order according to the viewer's wishes. Born under the "Mud Mud" label, the constituent elements can be combined via an augmented reality application before being physically assembled by the artist. Based on his anthropological work, his latest series is devoted to masks, pieces this time made entirely in chamotte stoneware and decorated with engobe, as much art as design. As always, for this somewhat iconoclastic creator, it's a question of working artistically on a basically functional object, in order to entertain it from its primary use and show it to us in a different light.
