About the Item

This Folk Art piece is a beautiful representation of the Candela festivity in Yanhuitlan, Oaxaca. A folkloric wall hanging representation of musicians, dancers, and tradition. Artist Manuel Reyes lives in Yanhuitlan. He creates this work with clay from Oaxaca and Zacatecas, and uses oxides from the region to paint the piece. It is done with the hand-modeled technique and cooked in traditional wood-fired oven.

    This collection of three Black Americana baseball figures, circa 1930s-1940s, are attributed to the San Antonio folk artist, Control Valadez. The set of Black memorabilia, sometimes called Black Americana, includes a pitcher, catcher & batter, each having been set and raised onto a custom iron base. They are all quite chippy with losses, nice patina and showing of age, still retaining much of their original paint colors.
