About the Item

Stylized and reductive, this beautiful 1930s-vintage ceramic sculpture depicts a sitting mother holding her child very close, her legs crossed and her arms enfolding the baby. The warm turquoise color is highlighted with areas of charcoal-hued glaze, and the outlines of arms, feet and hands are emphasized with incised lines in the darker color. Although not signed, this sculpture was clearly created by a skilled artist.
