The Nazarene

About the Item

Giuseppe Rivadossi (Nave, July 8, 1935) The Nazarene, 2009, 3/9 plaster sculpture Head of young man with thick hair caught as, with half-closed eyes and mouth, he experiences a moment of serene meditation. Particularly interesting is the sought-after asymmetry of the hair, which gives the work a special charm. Dimensions: 39 x 29 x 23 cm Base 20x20x2.5 cm Having inherited an interest in art from his father Clement, Rivadossi officially began his artistic career in the 1960s, approaching the study of furniture and of woodcarving, plaster, terracotta and bronze. Multiple materials are thus used in his achievements, always inspired by man, his values and and his "living. Giuseppe Rivadossi says: I have seen woodworking since I was a child. Until the 1960s," where I now live, the man-man, man-nature relationship was still based on an ancient ethic. Then industry came, and with it the looting began. The hope for a less harsh life soon turned into a bitter realization. The new technology that was only supposed to be a more improved tool turned out to be a tool of frustration and general disruption. In this situation, I feel more and more deeply the need to express that underlying sense of unity in existence, as a basic idea not to be lost or to be found at all costs every day and in everything. Now these images, these sculptures, and this furniture arise from the depths of my experience as a song, of that hope and the only alternative that lies before us rather than of nostalgia for the past.
