About the Item

Entitled "Nondum" or "not yet," this remarkable and important bronze panel by Anna Ladd depicts a time in the future -- a mysterious, ecstatic world that seems to represent both paradise and regret. Ladd also sculpted a panel depicting the horrors of World War I with the same shape, though a bit smaller, so "Nondum" may be a companion piece, showing Peace instead of War, Utopia rather than Dystopia. The nude figures are superbly done, and the overall environment created by Ladd is moving and thoughtful. The scene includes several nude male and female figures in a range of poses, including a reclining nude man in the lower left, and a nude female with arms outstretched who seems to be experiencing a kind of resurrection. The panel is signed by Anna Ladd, who was an important sculptor in both the Boston and southern California regions. She was active in the Guild of Boston Artists, the Copley Society, North Shore Art Association and the San Diego Art Association, as well as the National Sculpture Society.
