Vienna Augarten Figurines Smeraldina and Truffaldino Model 1605 Doebrich, 1960
By Albin Döbrich
Located in Vienna, AT
Vienna Augarten nicest figurine group: Actors Helene and Hermann Thimig as Smeraldina und Truffaldino Designer: Professor Albin Doebrich (1872-1945) / Model 1605 designed circa 1930. Hermann Thimig (1890–1982) was an Austrian film actor. He appeared in 102 films between 1916 and 1967. In 1965 he was made an honorary member of the Burgtheater and 1969 he received the Film Award for many years of excellent work in the German film. In 1981 he was awarded the Honorary Ring of the City of Vienna. Thimig had three children. His first, a daughter, from his marriage to actress Hanna (Guy) Thimig. From his second marriage to actress Vilma Degischer (1911-1992) he also had two daughters. Helene Thimig (1889–1974) was an Austrian stage and film actress. She was the daughter of the actor Hugo Thimig and the sister of Hermann Thimig and Hans Thimig.- She was married to the stage impresario Max Reinhardt from 1935 until his death in 1943. Thimig went into exile in the United States during the Nazi era, but returned to Europe after World War II. She died in her native Vienna in 1974 of heart failure. Smeraldina and Truffaldino are figurines of the stage play 'The Servant of Two Masters' (Italian: Il servitore di due padroni), a comedy by the Italian playwright Carlo Goldoni written in 1746. Goldoni originally wrote the play at the request of actor Antonio Sacco, one of the great Truffaldinos in history. His earliest drafts had large sections that were reserved for improvisation, but he revised it in 1753 in the version that exists today. The play draws on the tradition of the earlier Italian commedia dell'arte.   made circa 1960 white porcelain, multicolored painted / glossy finish The oval base is decorated with golden painted rims; further there are the inscription "Smeraldina und Truffaldino" visible.
