Painted wood sculpture, "DJINN" by Mohammad Ariyael

About the Item

Painted wood sculpture by artist Mohammad Ariyaei. The Djinn is carved in wood and then painted on two distinct sides, each providing a unique artistic interpretation: - On the first side, the sculpture is vividly and expressively painted with bold colors such as blue, red, yellow and black. The figure features a fragmented, asymmetrical face with piercing eyes, a golden beard and abstract elements evoking tribal or surrealist motifs. - The second side adopts a more graphic, minimalist style, with a black background covered by a dense pattern of fine, repeating white lines, creating a textured effect. The silhouette seems to evoke a spectral being or a shadow adorned with engravings, giving a more introspective and mysterious dimension to the work. As a child, Mohammad spent a lot of time with his grandmother, who practiced Sufism and dialogued with the beyond, and whose rich, fantastical stories inspired him and populated his imagination. In 2013, he met a children's book illustrator who encouraged him to paint his first canvas, marking the start of his career as an artist. His work is exhibited in several group shows in Iran, the Netherlands, Lebanon, Germany and Dubai. He had his first solo exhibition in 2018.
