About the Item

This charming 19th century pair of Polichrome metal figures by Louis Hottot depict a young woman and a young man. Rendered in lifelike detail, these busts seem to show the pair in conversation about a topic which has confused the boy and has delighted the girl. Every wrinkle of their colorful clothing is beautifully rendered and the representation of their expressions and gestures is so real that they almost seem to come to life. The artist has also carefully applied the perfect colors to their skin to create pieces that feel vibrant and striking. These beautiful figurines are a lovely snapshot into times of the past that were simple, wholesome, and immediate. Each figure raised on a marble base. Signed: L. Hottot Louis Hottot (1834-1905) was a 19th century French sculptor. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1885 until 1898. His sculptures were cast in bronze, spelter, marble, and composite.
