A Pair of Arts & Crafts Figural Terms / Pilasters Depicting Comedy & Tragedy

About the Item

A very good & robust pair of Thespian inspired, hand carved figural terms / pilasters in oak, representative of Comedy & Tragedy. Both figures are shown rendered as caryatids wearing classical Grecian robes and crossed arms adorned with arm bracelets. One figure effecting a positive or benign facial expression with upturned lips and arched eyebrows, the opposing figure exhibiting a noticeably more solemn expression, with downturned lips and furrowed eyebrows.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Both remain in very good overall condition, exhibiting excellent graining beneath an old varnished surface. A few very minor surface abrasions & losses. Both having been previously mounted, as evidenced by two small screw holes at the base of each.
