Pair of French 19th Century Neoclassical Style Egyptian Revival Statues

About the Item

A most impressive and extremely high quality true pair of French 19th century Neo-Classical st. Egyptian Revival patinated bronze, ormolu and marble statues of Hierogrammate and Pastophore, signed by PICAULT. Each statue is raised by a square bleu turquin marble base with a fine mottled border and ormolu ball feet. Each striking and finely detailed statue is wearing sandals, wonderfully executed garments with gilt accents wrapped around their waists and nemes head cloths with fine gilt accents. The statue to the left is of the high priest Hierogrammate holding a handsome bull on an ox blood red patinated background and ormolu base. He is holding his hand up and is wearing an impressive necklace with fine palmettes and handsome cobras. The statue to the left is of the scribe Pastophore who is holding a canopic jar in his left hand and an ormolu pen in the other. He is wearing a necklace with an elegant ormolu bird on a perch. Exceptional attention to detail and wonderful proportions.

A very handsome pair of French 19th century Egyptian Revival st. busts of Ramses the II and his wife Isis, signed by Pierre-Eugène-Émile Hébert. Each is raised on a black Belgian marble base with ormolu trim and etched eagle design on the front, accented with ormolu details.
