About the Item

A Meissen polychrome porcelain pair of tabletop statues with a male with a monkey and young woman playing a hurdy-gurdy. The woman wears a richly detailed traditional costume in magenta, gold, and cream tones, with a floral-patterned skirt and matching headscarf. Her expression is serene and lifelike, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship of fine European porcelain houses. The instrument she holds, a hurdy-gurdy, is a rare and historically significant detail, often associated with traveling musicians and regional fairs. The entire figure, including the base she stands on, is crafted in one piece. It rests atop a deep cobalt blue pedestal, hand-decorated with gilded scrolls and vibrant floral panels. The male, a performer, dressed in flamboyant red trousers with gold detailing, a patterned shirt, and a royal blue coat with elaborate gilding. Resting on his shoulder, a monkey in matching attire blows a yellow trumpet, adding movement and humor to the composition. The figures stands atop a base, painted in deep cobalt blue and adorned with hand-painted floral panels and ornate golden scrollwork. The bases and figure are crafted as a single piece. The piece reflects the 19th-century fascination with theatrical life and exotic pets. The man's arm and back show signs of previous damage and have been professionally restored (see photos). Take into account that the colors on the items may vary depending on the type of lighting and the type of screen from which you see the images.
