Both stand on their tiptoes on one foot — Fortuna resting on a scrolling base, and Mercury on a gust of wind, produced by Zephyrus, the god of the western wind — and their other leg is flicked back. In both, one arm is raised, and the other rests at their side. The figures stand on cylindrical yellow marble bases, which are ringed with continuous relief panels, depicting cherubs at the helm of sailing ships, and navigating using globes...

We are delighted to offer for sale this stunning pair of Guillaume Coustou bronze “Marly Horse” statues as seen in The Louvre Paris These are a very good looking and nicely executed pair, they are in solid bronze and have been wonderfully sculpted The original Marly Horses are two 1743–1745 Carrara marble sculpted groups by Guillaume Coustou, showing two rearing horses with their groom. They were commissioned by Louis XV of France for the trough at the entrance to the grounds of his château de Marly. Coustou's last works, they were intended to replace two other sculpted groups, Mercury on Pegasus and Pegasus, Renown of Horses, both by Antoine Coysevox...

Fabulous antique replica spelter detailed sculptures of the Marly rearing horse and groom original stone sculptures by Guillaume Coustou. These replica sculptures were extremely popular in the Victorian era and were done by many artists. This pair is in wonderful antique condition with no outstanding flaws we have detected. Please see photos, circa late 19th century. I knew I needed these to offer to you the moment I saw them. This lovely pair of antique Victorian highly detailed sculptures of the famed Marly rearing horse and groom sculptures are after the stone originals by Guillaume Coustou and will look amazing on your mantle, or wherever you decide. These small replica sculptures were done by many different artists in the late 19th century and were all the rage. Most were never signed but show the original signature of Coustou on the base, as do these. This handsome pair are cast in spelter, an alloy of which zinc is the main constituent, and have an exquisite age patina. They are mounted on their original black painted wood bases.
