About the Item

This patinated bronze sculpture, by the French sculptor Ernest Justin Ferrand, features a female winged figure holding a quill pen and an unfurled scroll of paper. She stands naturalistically, her posture in a classical contrapposto, upon a red marble and patinated bronze base. The base is mounted with a bronze plaque that features a quote from Pascal’s Pensées, which reads, in French, “L'HOMME EST VISIBLEMENT FAIT POUR PENSER, C'EST TOUTE SA DIGNITÉ ET TOUT SON MÉRITE”. The sculpture is signed ‘Ferrand’ on the bronze base.
