Pj Mêne, African Hunter, Signed Bronze, 19th Century

About the Item

The African Hunter, signed PJ Mêne: patinated bronze of an African on horseback, rifle in hand and his game on the ground, with many details making the sculpture come alive Model created by the French sculptor around 1877 Very beautiful cast and patina, weakness of the rifle at the rivet that holds it on the hunter's shoulder Prolific artist, Pierre Jules Mêne 1810-1879, distinguished himself as one of the main French animal sculptors in the 19th century From 1838, he participated in the Paris Salon; he created his own foundry workshop and set about casting and chiseling his works himself. His taste for animal sculpture, but above all the quality of his works, brought him great success.
