About the Item

R. Lullier (pseudonym of D.H. Chiparus) Sculpture circa 1920 of "The Reader and her Greyhound" mantle sculpture. This is a bronze patinated spelter sculpture with Ivorine hands and face on a marble base. Ivorine is a synthetic substance made from cellulose nitrate and was often used in conjunction with spelter by other prominent Art Deco sculptors. R. Lullier was one of the several pseudonyms of D.H. Chiparus. Demetre Haralamb Chiparus (1886-1947) was a Romanian Art Deco era sculptor who lived and worked in Paris, France. He was one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco period. This stunning and rare sculpture is in excellent condition with no cracks or surface wear. There are a couple of tiny fleabites on the bottom corners of the base which are hardly visible. Width is 19.5" (50.2 cm) Depth: 5.625" (14.3 cm) Height: 10.25" (26 cm) Weight is 21 lbs.
