Rare 1970s Pawel Fietkiewicz Polish Modern Ceramic Sisters Figural Sculptures

About the Item

Rare, pair of terra cotta bisque and colorful glazed goddess figures created by sculptor and goldsmith Pawel Fietkiewicz of Poland circa 1970s. One is slightly taller than the other and stands at 14.25" by 3". The brown and blue one is signed as pictured. In very good vintage 1970s condition. Pawel Fietkiewicz (born in 1930 in Lida, died on October 1, 2015) - Polish sculptor, goldsmith. He was a graduate of the Faculty of Sculpting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (now the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk). From 1964 until his death in 2015, he and his wife Maria Fietkiewicz dealt with goldsmithing (at first they both also created ceramics). They belonged to the precursors of the so-called the Polish school of amber and silver, which had its origins in the 1960s and the 20th century. Pawel Fietkiewicz was, inter alia, the creator of his own, original technique of setting jewelry stones known as the method of multiplied cargias. Their works have been presented at numerous national and international exhibitions, and are also in private collections and in the collections of many museum institutions, including the collections of the National Museum in Gdansk, the Castle Museum in Malbork, the Museum in Gliwice and the Goldsmith Art Museum, which is a branch of the Museum Nadwislanski in Kazimierz Dolny. In 2009, the Gdansk Amber Museum presented an exhibition entitled The Amber Jubilee of Maria and Pawel Fietkiewicz. Author's exhibition on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of creativity. On the occasion of the exhibition, an illustrated catalog with the artists' monograph entitled The amber jubilee of Maria and Pawel Pietkiewicz: author's exhibition on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the Amber Museum's work, Branch of the Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk October 26, 2009 - February 28, 2010 (Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk, 2012. Fietkiewicz died on October 1, 2015. He was buried at the Municipal Cemetery in Sopot.
