Rene Broissand biography : René Broissand (1928-2019) was a very talented decorator and artist. Born in Tunisia to French parents, he learned the trade of welder upon arriving in France. He quickly devoted himself to this material that he learned to love: metal and particularly stainless steel, preferring it to others for its malleability and resistance. He will explore all the possibilities through exchanges with numerous artists using this material. He will be particularly determined to explore all its limits in an artistic dimension. René Broissand will never stop creating. He participated in his first exhibitions in Paris from 1963 with metal artists such as César, Hiquily, Guzman and Albert Féraud. From Basel to New York, he has held exhibitions over a period of twenty years. His career has been built around the intimate relationships he has maintained with numerous entrepreneurs and personalities. Appreciated both for his sculpture and his furniture, for this fabulous international notebook composed of personalities from the world of TV, cinema and politics, he is required to respond to important orders. His polished bronze lighting fixtures, steel tables and seats, first presented at the Sanangello gallery, were purchased by the Rothschild Foundation in 1976. In 1977, he produced several sculptures and a set of tables combining steel and metal for Pierre Cardin. ceramics that he knew how to work with the same virtuosity. His sculpture is characterized by a recurring theme, “the bird”, symbol of the freedom that he never ceased to seek. Its furniture, charged with the same strength and the same eclecticism, revisits modernity. Totem seats resulting from strong geometric research, a bench with a back punctuated by the rustling of steel, a Heron floor lamp with slender grace, each piece by René Broissand is unique and manifests with its own assets the union of Art and Design. It was in Annecy, where he settled in 1970, that a large part of his works were created. Supported by the National Assembly, the Ministry of Culture and the Annecy municipality, a large number of them were installed around the lake in a sort of large nautical ballet shining with a thousand lights and springing from the water with dynamism and poetry.
