Saint Anthony with the Child Ceramic Sculpture

About the Item

Saint Anthony with the Child, ceramic sculpture. Saint Anthony wears the traditional brown Franciscan habit, with the characteristic three-knotted cord around his waist. The Baby Jesus is wrapped in a light cloak and rests on a book, symbolizing his connection with the word of God. The expression on Saint Anthony's face conveys serenity and devotion. The base of the statue is rectangular, with details that imitate marble. This image is common in churches, chapels and prayer spaces, being widely venerated by devotees who seek its intercession, especially in causes related to love and lost objects. Saint Anthony of Lisbon or Padua, (Lisbon, August 15, 1195? — Padua, June 13, 1231) was a Doctor of the Church who lived at the turn of the 12th to the 13th century. He was given the name Fernando, but his family surname is uncertain. The piece shows signs of wear, mainly on the base and in some areas of the paint.
