About the Item

Magnificent vintage Sergio Bustamante “Fish Boy” Series Fantasy Figural large-scale hand painted ceramic signed sculpture. Beautiful, repaired condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, he was broken in several areas and was repaired by our staff artisans. Repaired breaks are not invisible as we did not want to “fool” anyone, but they are pleasing repairs. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1980’s. I think there’s something FISHY going on here at the shop!! And by Fishy I mean… a Fantastic Fishy Fantasy Figural Fabulous… Sculpture. HA… Say THAT 3 times fast! All tongue twisting and jokes aside, we got this guy JUST in time! Poor guy had been in an unfortunate accident and was in need of some serious attention. He suffered a few broken ligaments and was in desperate turmoil. Thank GOODNESS for our incredibly talented, caring staff!! Not only did he get the FINEST cosmetic “surgery.” Our experienced artisans gave him the Royal Treatment and we think he looks INCREDIBLE!!! At 30H x 22D x 28W this guy is life sized (like an actual toddler!) He is an absolutely marvelous spectacle that could only be created by the hands of renowned artist Sergio Bustamante! Infamous for his productions of unique “humanoid” like creatures and subjects, this sculpture is part of Bustamante’s “Fish Boy” series collection depicting a child with fish-like features including his green flowing hair styled as a mohawk of fish scales and his skin bearing a slight green tint with scales all over his body, and swirls at his wrists and ankles. Is he part boy, part merman? We think so… and he is ALL AWESOME!! He will be an incredible addition to your Bustamante collection if you are fortunate to have one… or a perfect “first” piece to start one! He will be quite the conversation piece on a pedestal anywhere you display your fabulous art or make a bold statement in an entry way or dining room if you have a table suited to host his size. He is a MUST have if you enjoy mesmerizing mythical objects of fantasy and imagination. Sergio Bustamante was born in 1949 in Sinaloa, Mexico. He is a painter, sculptor, and designer known best for his depictions of animals, mythic characters, and unique humanoid like subjects. His work has stood out worldwide for originality and imagination. He works with ceramic, wood, plastic, bronze, paper mâché, etc., and typically paints and glazes for added features and details of realism to bring his creatures to life. He studied architecture at the University of Guadalajara, but he left before his degree in order to focus on crafting and art. Bustamante and fellow artist Melquiades Preciado founded the SerMel Workshop in 1963 in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico. The workshop’s name was created from the combination of the first three letters of each of their names, Ser-Mel. Their original artwork was immediately recognized in Mexico and around the world and garnered awards. In 1966 he showcased his first exhibition at the Galeria Misracha in Mexico City. By the end of the 1970s Bustamante went out on his own and established the “Family Workshop Studio” in Tlaquepaque, Jalisco. The workshop was left in the hands of Melquiades and his brothers Luis and Fausto. Today, Bustamante continues to exhibit his work all over the world. This magnificent Sergio Bustamante “Fish Boy” series hand painted ceramic sculpture is just too incredible to let go! Even and especially with his tender loving repair care!!! We know he won’t last long, so if you love him half as much as we do… you better not let him get away… get your hooks in him… and make him YOURS!!!! Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that these are vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. There are scratches on all 4 sculptures, a ding on one, and we have replaced 2 triangular bent metal pieces. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, late 20th – early 21st century. Oh yeah… it’s hip to be square!! And in this case, that is definitely true!! This is an awesome series of four-square dimensional mixed metal wall sculptures by C. Jere displaying various unique and abstract geometric designs comprised of steel, brass, and copper arranged in the center of each metal square. C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. This series of four is a MUST have for any wall that needs a bold statement piece, touch of Modern style, or simply an intriguing, phenomenal piece of artwork! Position them to your preference and change any wall from being bland, to BOOM! They would be wonderful side by side in a row of four however, I envision them stacked one on top of the other in a large square. Maybe over a fireplace, on a wall in a tall entry way, or on a primary wall in your living room. If you’ve been looking for the right touch of Modern or Industrial edge to welcome into your home… you just found it! Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in mid century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11...

Organic Modern Cast Bronze Bowl Sculpture with Fish Design by John Forsythe
Located in Topeka, KS
Fabulous organic modern bronze fishbowl sculpture by John Forsythe comprised of cast bronze with golden bronze and green patination. Gorgeous vintage condition with no outstanding flaws that we have found. Please see photos. Circa 1993. No human being, however great, or powerful, was ever so free as a fish – John Ruskin, Picture Quotes. Just look at this magnificent cast bronze bowl sculpture with fish design created by John Forsythe. A decorative bowl comprised of a cast bronze water whirlpool with swimming fish caught in the spinning currents, their half bodies and patinated green tails distending from the swirling water and a fish tail protruding from the exterior base of the bowl. You feel the struggle of trying to stay above water and complete your journey. Surrounded by a cast bronze rim trimmed with shiny green bubbles or fish eggs as to represent salmon and their spawning. Salmon lay an enormous number of eggs because they face a lot of adversity on their journey to becoming an adult, and while we aren’t sure these fish are in fact salmon, it certainly speaks to the realities of the course of life. Overcoming hardships and struggles and new beginnings. This sculpture is unique and one of only fifty created by John Forsythe, so it is sure to be a sought-after piece for collectors. In the style of organic modern or fantasy, this piece would be gorgeous displayed on your dining table, display cabinet or buffet in the family room, or on the coffee table in the living room. John Forsythe knew at an early age that he wanted to be an artist. He graduated from Emporia State University in 1976 with his BFA and started working with metals. He was employed as manager of Oxbow Foundry and befriended Eldon Tefft, Founder of the International Sculptor Guild and Chair of the University of Kansas Art...
