About the Item

Marvelous 20th Century vintage figural carved solid wood resting camel sculpture with a distressed white painted body. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, he has a purposefully distressed paint and a patina with a few nicks & chips that simply elevate his vintage charm. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 20th Century. What do you call a camel with no humps??? HUMPHREY!!! Get it? Hump…free!!!! LOL!!! Ok, sorry!!! Let’s be a bit more serious…and besides, our camel is EXTRA awesome because he has TWO humps, which is technically known as a Bactrian Camel! He is a fabulous figural sculpture in a resting position comprised of SOLID wood with a wonderful distressed white painted body and although he may not be quite as heavy as an actual live camel, he is definitely solid and quite heavy! Hey… do you know how a “cool camel” says hello??? Hey, how you DUNE!!! HaHaHa!!! Gotcha!! Anyway, we aren’t sure if he was once a part of an oversized Nativity scene or made an escape from a crazy little petting zoo (LOL!) but either way, we think he would make a fabulous decorative addition to any room in your home. His humps sit a bit lower than his head and he sits pretty low to the ground, but with a bit of creativity and a small “tray sized” piece of glass he could be a unique little side or accent table. By the way… How do you sneak across the desert without being seen??? You wear CAMEL-FLAGE!!! LOL! Sorry, couldn’t help myself!! Ok, all joking aside, this marvelous carved wood camel sculpture is completely charming. He has already won our hearts and we will have a hard time letting him go… And that’s NO joke!! But, if you think you can love him even HALF as much as we do you better hurry… and make him YOURS!!! There he is… out in the distance standing on the cliffs edge, rearing with a colossal power that only a wild stallion exudes… Thrusting his hooves at the setting sun as if to say, “this is MY mountain, MY meadows, and MY heard.” He commands attention, he is dignified, and he is EXQUISITE. We have a marvelous cast metal bronze tone stylized rearing horse standing on a beautiful black marble base to offer to you. Attributed to C. Jere (a.k.a.) Curtis Jere which is not a single artist but is a nom-de-plume for a group of artists working for Artisan House and well known for their phenomenal jewelry, metal sculptures, and collectibles. And this abstract rearing horse is a perfect example of their remarkable pieces!! Unlike other rearing horse sculptures, this one has a single back and front leg… it appears to have been cast this way and we think he is extraordinary. This sculpture will look fabulous on your desk, coffee table, or on a shelf in any room of your home. And though it’s modern, it will be beautiful anywhere you want to add a little abstract flair. This is just the sculpture you’ve been looking for! Artisan House artists included founders Curtis Freiler and Jerry Fels and Curtis Jere is a combination of their names. Before founding Artisan House these two friends and brothers-in-law had built a costume jewelry business which sold under the names of Renoir and Matisse, two well-known names of mid-20th century costume jewelry. During the mid-20th century, the C. Jere sculptures, and metal work were distributed by Raymor, a well-known name in Mid Century collectibles, and sold at Gump’s in San Francisco and other upscale retail establishments. Jerry Fels died 11...

20th Century Asian Sculpture Guan Yu Chinese Warrior Hand Carved Rosewood
Located in Topeka, KS
Handsome vintage Asian Chinoiserie rosewood Guan Yu or Chinese warrior hand carved larger scale sculpture. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. Please see photos and zoom in for details. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 20th Century. A warrior is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who cannot provide for themselves, and above all, children- the future of humanity. This is a magnificent vintage Chinese warrior or Guan Yu sculpture comprised of stunning rosewood with intricately hand carved details and a removeable guandao (Chinese pole weapon). In Chinese culture, General Guan Yu represents loyalty and valor. People believe that by having his image in art or sculpture in their home will protect their family from harm. And while we don’t believe he is going to break out with any actual martial arts moves; his fearless presence commands the room and demands attention! You may notice that in some of the photos our warrior friend is holding his guandao upside-down, don’t judge! Even the best of warriors tend to get exhausted from a long day of defending humanity and protecting mankind. A guy can get a little turned around! Just look at his expression… he is OVER it!! His hand is even up gesturing as if to say, “Talk to the hand!” LOL!! He is handsomely dressed from head to toe in full body armor and his long beard or Fu Manchu is flowing in the breeze. He stands proud upon a rounded square base at about 24 inches tall, so he is definitely larger scale, he will be fabulous in ANY room of your home, and he is the EPITOME of Chinoiserie excellence! Don’t let this incredible hand carved rosewood Chinese warrior sculpture...
