EXTREMELY RARE
Carel Herman Aart van der Wijck (1840 – 1914) was Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies (1893-1899) and a member of the Senate. He began his career in 1864 as a clerk (a mid-level administrative civil servant) and eventually rose to Governor-General in 1893. He is best known for his decisive intervention on Lombok, after the expeditionary force of approximately 2,500 men there was unexpectedly overrun and suffered heavy losses on the evening of August 25, 1894.
