About the Item

Thymiaterion, or incense burner, in patinated bronze, decorated with a central figure, probably a dancer, standing on a tripod foot with lion paws, and small sculptures of lions Above his head, a column ends with flower buds and open leaves (where the bowl containing the perfume was originally placed) and a bearded man, why not Velch, the god of Fire? Several Etruscan Thymaterion (period 6th/5th century BC) can be found in museum collections, such as the Met or the Louvre Museum. This 19th century object is a successful example of the objects of the "Grand Tour": from the end of the 17th century, young men from good families set off on this initiatory journey, initially in Italy and Greece, to discover the cultural and artistic origins that founded our civilization. From these trips, they brought back "souvenirs", objects made inspired by Greece or ancient Italy Object in good general condition: the gaps and wear reflect the real state in which the antique objects were found One leaf is missing Height 121cm diameter approx. 46cm Height of the dancer alone 54cm
