About the Item

Belonging to the period 1603-1867, most likely between the end of 17th and the beginning of 18th Century, this beautiful armour is a 32-plate suji kabuto made of brown-lacquered iron with gilded copper tehen kanamoto consisting of sectos, mabezashi with rippled lacquer, small round maedate featuring a Mon in the center (most recent maedate); 5 plate shikoro (very small missing parts to the lacquer), with tebiki-style lacing, missing fikugaeshi. Messei menpo made of brown-lacquered iron with removable nosepiece and long moustache of light horsehair, 5.plate yodarekake, the last one of which partially gilded; brown-lacquered Do with scales and complete with 5-plate leather kusazuri (damaged silk laces), pertinent 7-plate sode, the last plate is gold lacquered; kote with damaged silk cloth, the haidate of iron mail and brown-lacquered plates. Original wooden box with iron and brass mounts featuring Mon painted on all sides. Totally original and in overall good condition, this piece comes from the Collection of Norbert Michaud, Paris.
