Tourbillon – French Art Deco Dancer Sculpture by Fayral for Max Le Verrier

About the Item

Ethereal elegance captured in motion – this striking French Art Deco sculpture titled “Tourbillon” (French for whirlwind) is a celebration of rhythm, grace, and feminine dynamism. Designed by Pierre Le Faguays (1892–1962) under his celebrated pseudonym Fayral, and cast by the renowned Max Le Verrier atelier in Paris, this original piece exemplifies the sensual fluidity and modern aesthetics of the 1920s. The sculpture depicts a dancer mid-turn, her slender body caught in a whirlwind of movement, encircled by a long, flowing ribbon. Her pose is one of both strength and delicacy — head tilted in poetic abandon, arms raised in expressive arc, and one foot poised lightly on tiptoe. The ribbon swirls organically around her form, emphasizing the flowing contours and evoking a sense of perpetual motion. Every detail, from the soft musculature to the expressive facial features, reflects the artistry and discipline of the Art Deco period. Cast in spelter with a refined patina and mounted on a stepped base of fine black veined marble, the contrast of materials and textures enhances the sculpture’s dramatic presence. Though a contemporary casting from the original molds, this piece originates directly from the historic Max Le Verrier workshop, ensuring its artistic integrity and collectible value.
