About the Item

Traditional wooden sculpture on a base from the Tanimbar islands in the Moluccan archipelago in Indonesia. Discover Lantafu, a sculpture that embodies the soul and spirituality of the Tanimbar islands in the Moluccan archipelago. Carefully crafted from wood, each motif and curve bears witness to the ancestral skills of the islanders, transforming the material into a veritable artistic and sacred language. The sculpture features a stylised anthropomorphic figure, with slender, symmetrical forms. The body, narrow and slightly flared at the base, is surmounted by a head topped by a flat rectangular element, evoking a headdress or ceremonial attribute. The arms are stretched horizontally, extended by scrolled ends that recall cloudy or floral motifs. The entire surface of the work is decorated with rich, finely sculpted spiral motifs that emphasise the contours of the body and reinforce its ritual appearance. The face, barely outlined, is distinguished by two large spirals in place of eyes and discreet features that blend into the ornamentation, giving the figure a presence that is both enigmatic and solemn. Much more than a simple decorative object, Lantafu is a unique piece, a bearer of tradition and emotion, capable of transforming your space into a place of contemplation. It's an invitation to reflect, to travel and to discover the ancestral beliefs of the Tanimbar people.
