White Marble Sculpture/Bust of Madame Recamier
About the Item
This is a white marble bust of Madame Recamier after Joseph Chinard sculpture. It depicts her head rotated to the right while she is covering her chest with a semi -transparent, probably silk shawl, but exposing one of her breast. She shows a shy smile and her eyes are semi closed. Her undulated hair presents a twisted bun hairstyle hold by a Spanish comb and a headband. Her shoulder blades are almost bare. The bust is attached to a bilateral concave marble pedestal that has a squared base. Madame Juliette Recamier was a famous French socialite that serves as a model for painters and sculptors because of her great beauty and elegance.
