"Fórcola" Sculpture by Giuseppe Carli
About the Item
Fórcole are laboriously hand-carved by an elite group of Venetian artisans, called Remèri in the Venetian dialect, according to traditions that have gradually evolved since the invention of these highly-engineered devices many centuries ago.
The curious beauty of the fórcola has long attracted people who do not earn their living piloting gondolas, and fórcole can be found in great private art collections, as well as in the Museum of Modern Art.
Giuseppe Carli, regarded as one of the greatest Remèri, created this particular fórcola in 1973. A fascinating object whose sculptural beauty, one senses, is not entirely inadvertant.
Signed "G. Carli 1973"
