About the Item

Fantastic art deco Sculpture group by G. Gori ( Georges Gori ). This figure group is known as 'The Guardians" and is unlike most of the groups unmounted. The set is an early study for the later on well known "Guardians" group. This lady has, unlike the mounted ones, a bigger and more heavy front shoe and is, on the inside of the dress, made more heavier. This way the sculpture is more stable. The details on the lady and dogs are coarser then the ones Gori made for the Guardians group. The Guardians that are mounted on a pedestal are signed in this pedestal. This group is signed in both dogs. The way the signature is made still is a little tentative. The dogs have more details then we know from the Guardians groups. We found this group in a very wore down condition. The sculptures were rapped in newspapers and stored away for over 30 years in a damp invironment. This way the ink of the papers reacted with the bronzed outside. The paper was fossilized and almost "hard as stone". Because of the humidity and the rapped newspapers the bronzed outer has some discoloration on several places. Never the less it is a unique "study" which is most likely one of a kind. We purchased it from the first owner being Lady Nefkens. The Nefkens family. A short biography; The family Nefkens was one of the most important exclusive car sellers around 1900 and sold to the aristocrats in Holland the first Dion-Bouton (The same year Dion-Bouton opened a car factory in Brooklyn - New York). The lady Nefkens was a great collector of these high-end pieces. (still restoring the sculpture). The pictures on 1stdibs show how we found it (1st picture) and, in steps, were it is now! Don't mis this fabulous piece!
