About the Item

Victor Heinrich Seifert (1870-1953) was a sculptor of statues, mostly of military figures, and memorials. After the First World War he was - together with Hans Dammann (1867-1942) and Hermann Hosaeus (1875-1958) - one of the most popular sculptors who created war memorials for German towns and villages. He went to school in Vienna and Munich and studied at the 'Kunstgewerbeschule' ('School of Decorative Arts'). He studied at the 'Berliner Kunstakademie' ('Berlin Academy of Arts') where he was taught by Ernst Gustav Herter (1846-1917), Karl Ludwig Manzel (1858-1936) and Peter Christian Breuer (1856-1930). Study trips took him to Paris in 1903, to Italy in 1905, and in 1910 to Brussels and London. According 'Dresslers Kunsthandbuch' (Part 2, p. 945) he was appointed a position as a professor. In 1930 he lived in West Berlin in the Lietzenburger Straße No. 31 Seifert was a member of the 'Künstler-Genossenschaft' ('Artist Association') and the 'Künstlervereins der Bildhauer' ('Artist Association of Sculptors'). Victor Seifert was the son of garden inspector Franz Seifert and his wife Franziska Franz. On 25 May 1909 he married Frieda Deditius and they had a son, Wolfgang.
