About the Item

This antique English carved stone armorial plaque is from Athelhampton House, one of England’s finest Tudor manors located in the Dorchester countryside in the south of the UK. The house dates from 1485, the same year as the Battle of Bosworth during the Wars of the Roses. This heraldic plaque was a later addition to the house, dating from the early 1800s. It depicts an armorial shield, likely the coat of arms of a previous owner, in high relief with various markings hand carved into limestone. Exceptionally preserved, the armorial plaque has a lightly weathered surface finish that only time can create, today mounted on a bespoke steel stand as a historic display piece.
