Antique Silver Hmong Collar or Neck Ring

This an impressive large early 20th century silver collar or neck band in the traditional Miao/Hmong Tribal tradition. The collar is composed of three individual but complementary bands, each designed in an abstract geometric pattern. The collars are mounted on a custom Steel stand. All three collars are in excellent overall condition; no faults have been noted. The Miao are an ethnic minority and are located principally at the intersection of northern Thailand, Laos, Myanmar and China. This is a wonderful late 19th century sterling patch or pill box in the 17th/18th century style. The box is designed as an oval with a repousse lid depicting a farm yard vignette detailed with farm buildings, chickens and family life. The reverse is a simple polished sterling oval that has been hallmarked and bears the export mark "Germany". This is a stunning example of the highest level of basket weaving. The crane was created by the Shanghai Handicrafts Co. in the mid-20th century, c. 1960-1970.
