About the Item
This stunning Art Deco giltwood plaque was realized by the esteemed artist Maurice "Pico" Picaud in France circa 1930. It features a square form with serrated edges with a dancing flapper, Anita Barker, in the center and geometric Art Deco forms throughout. Barker was one of the flapper dancers at the legendary "Folies Bergere"- the bar that served as the subject of one of Eduard Manet's most important and well known paintings. A stylized rendition of tBarker occupies the center of the composition, pictured here mostly in the nude with one leg (and two arms) raised traipsing forward in dynamic movement. A silky streamlined sash (or perhaps a curtain) appears behind her, which she grabs with her left hand. The background is composed of an abundance of quintessential Art Deco leitmotifs- including starburst patterns, concentric streamlined forms, and ziggurats- all in brilliant relief. With its iconically Art Deco forms, this piece is sure to delight discerning collectors of the period as well as those with a penchant for exquisite objects. It would be a winning addition to any style of interior from classic Deco to contemporary. Excellent vintage condition.
