Composition of 13 Fruits in Marble Polychrome Still Life Grand Tour 19th century
About the Item
Fascinating composition of different fruits made of Carrara marble carved and later painted in the manner of the Roman and Florentine workshops of the 19th century. The fruits are contained inside a copper basin. There are varieties of apples, oranges, tangerines, pears and figs and even a banana, a tropical fruit imported to Europe by Portuguese settlers in the 17th century. These were real three-dimensional still lifes, masterfully painted to the point that they could be mistaken for real fruit. Excellent state of conservation. Measurements Basin 24 x 18 cm
