Huge Prehistoric Fossilised Whale Bone

About the Item

Standing at over 120cm (47 inches) tall, this rare prehistoric fossilised whale bone is a fascinating sculptural artefact for an interior or live-in museum. It was reputedly excavated in Beccles, Suffolk UK and has a natural shape and open texture formed through fossilisation over thousands – if not millions – of years. While we are not certain what part or species of the whale it is, it is undoubtedly an impressive sculptural piece for a contemporary interior or collector, affixed to a metal stand as an impressive artwork display item. A prized and valuable material, fossilised whale bone is often found the form of carving. The native Inuit of the Artic regions of the globe traditionally create carvings in whale bone, sculpting the fossils into the form of animals or people. This fossilised whale bone is not carved but instead has a naturalistic form, making it a completely unique sculptural piece. Measures: Base: 30.5 x 30.5 cm.

    Located in Haarlem, NL
Very interesting early 20th Century Czech made taxidermy cow "Tur Domácí Bos Taurus" hind leg for classroom study, probably used at a University Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. The leg is at least a hundred years old, you can see by the way it is fixed together (the curly iron thread) and the surface ware of the real bones, it is smooth and yellowish. The iron and wood holder however is probably aded very recently (my guess is in the 80s 90s). Tur Domácí Bos Taurus (which is Czech and Latin for domestic bovine, or domestic cow) is an even-toed ungulate from the genus Bos of the bovine family...
