About the Item

A striking and imaginative work inspired by the celebrated Magiscopes of Mexican artist Feliciano Bejar, this sculptural piece reinterprets his visionary fusion of art, science, and optical wonder. Signed EM and dated 2008, the work is constructed of enameled steel and optical glass featuring a series of convex "bubbles" etched into both sides, the structure incorporating industrial forms—gear-like rings, mechanical joints, and a sculptural columnar base repurposed from a crankshaft—that support a circular magnifying lens embedded with luminous glass spheres. The result is both kinetic and contemplative: an object that evokes telescopic instruments, celestial observation, and the mechanical poetry of the machine age. Balancing precision engineering with surreal curiosity, this Magiscope after Bejar stands as a modern homage to mid-century explorations of technology and perception, bridging the mechanical and the metaphysical.
