Pair of Late 18th Century Italian Neoclassical Giltwood Fragments

About the Item

This pair of Italian giltwood ornaments are fragments from an original late 1700s Neoclassical architectural. They have been mounted more recently on painted black stands with metal arms. The gilding has retained much of its original luster, enhancing the quality of the carvings. A central cabochon is enveloped by a leaf-like element with numerous volute tendrils. The crest is composed of a curled tip adorned with a recessed carving filled with beading. An elaborate canopy emanates from the bottom, with numerous curled leaves featuring angular barbs. A beautiful pair of Italian giltwood fragments, these decorative accessories can be placed on a fireplace mantel, sofa table, or bookshelf.
