Sculptural 18th Century Italian Fragment Mounted on Phantom Optical Calcite
About the Item
18th century Italian fragment with gold mica and baroque pearls on a phantom optical calcite base.
The fragment originally came from a historical church in Italy. It is adorned with the gold mica and naturally forming baroque pearls to look as though they formed from the artifact. It is then mounted on the phantom optical calcite base.
The fragment artifact has been preserved and transformed by Jean O'Reilly Barlow, the artist and creative director of Interi. The date of manufacture reflects when she transformed the piece and the period shows that the Italian fragment is originally 18th century.
The Italian artifact and natural elements are put together in a sculptural form - creating a piece that appears to have evolved together over time. Interpreting the past to create a piece entirely original, evolving in its own right.
