About the Item
Wooden sculpture utilitarian art, 19th century water wheel mounted on Stand. This is a decorative sculpture of solid wood. It has been mounted to be on display and is very sturdy.
The history of this item.
During the 16th-19th centuries this type of Cog was used to move water for irrigating fields. Completely handmade in the 19th century. Wooden cylinders are attached to the shaft working as counter weights while the paddles in the middle move the water in the direction of rotation needed. As water falls on the paddles the counter weights provide momentum to each rotation. This water wheel would be placed horizontally when in use. Utilitarian art sculpture, circa 1800.
