About the Item

This meteorite was acquired from the Bethany Sciences collection and was once a part of the private collection of Meteorite Man Robert A. Haag. It includes an informational Certificate of Authenticity signed by Haag and comes in a labeled display box. This rare pallasite meteorite was found in 1807 in Belarus. The single mass weighed 823 kg. This slice features beautiful orange and green olivine crystals – the mineral form of peridot – suspended in a nickel iron matrix. Pallasite meteorites are a fascinating mixture of stony iron matrix and the silicate olivine, where in planetary bodies heavier iron forms a core and lighter, rock-forming minerals comprise a mantle. These meteorites – the class of which comprises less than 1% of all known meteorites – are likely the result of collisions between asteroids in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter in the early days of our solar system. These asteroids ultimately fragment into meteorites which fall to earth so that you can hold this slice of the heavens in your hands. Dimensions: 2-1/4"L x 5/16"W x 1-9/16"H, Weight: 24 g

Genuine Sericho Pallasite Meteorite
Located in New York, NY
This luminous Sericho pallasite meteorite slice offers a captivating view into the early solar system. Dating back approximately 4.5 billion years, this stony-iron meteorite was discovered in Kenya and officially recognized in 2016, although the fall is believed to have occurred decades earlier. This Sericho slice features a mosaic of orange and green Olivine – the gem variety of Peridot – suspended in a gleaming iron-nickel matrix. Especially when backlit, the Olivine crystals radiate with striking transparency and color. Pallasites make up less than 1% of all known meteorites and are among the rarest and most beautiful of extraterrestrial materials. Thought to originate from disrupted asteroids in the early solar system, specimens like this one likely formed at the boundary between a molten metal core and a silicate-rich mantle – or through high-energy impacts between differentiated bodies. This meteorite slice offers a literal cross-section of planetary formation and destruction. A true standout for any meteorite, mineral, or space memorabilia...
