About the Item

Alethopteris Species Fern Fossil Natural Specimen, 305+ Million Years Old. This is such a stunning piece that it simply must have a stand. If you like, this stand will be included as a gift, but please be very careful using it as it was not intended for this shape of fossil. (If you do not want the gift stand, please let us know.) This absolutely gorgeous plant fossil was discovered in Pennsylvania. Colors occur naturally over time through the mineralization process. Since this is a prehistoric fossil it will show its age (of course!) potentially such as cracks, pits, etc. We do our best to find the nicest possible items with the least bothersome imperfections. General Information: Measurements are approximate and generally represent the highest, widest, and thickest areas of an item. Species and where discovered are estimated based on available comparisons, research of others, and/or the source from which we obtained the specimen as we are not fossil experts. Please expect that prehistoric items such as fossils may have signs of wear, use, or need for cleaning. Some may also have had repairs/restorations or have been sealed for preservation's sake. Please be aware that the color on your monitor and/or in your environment may look slightly different than in ours, so color is not guaranteed to be exact. Please also keep in mind that vintage and older items usually will show some indication of previous ownership and handling. Buyers of vintage and older items are presumed to understand and accept these. Since we do not do returns, please feel free to send questions if you have any before your purchase and we will be pleased to respond. #rarefossil #extinctfossil #fossil #fernfossils #plantfossil #foliage #uniquespecimen #extinctfossilspecimen #organicdecor #Decor #collector #fossilcollection #naturalworld #naturalspecimen #fossils #plantfossil #treefernfossil #carboniferousperiod #prehistoric #Alethopteris

Fossil Glossopteris Fern Leaf Plate & Surmounted Etched Brass Stand
Located in Scorton, GB
A beautiful display of Glossopteris seed fern leaves preserved within the Permian claystone (Illawarra Coal Measures, Upper Permian; Dunedoo area, New South Wales, Australia) now presented on THE FOSSIL STORE™ designed AES Brass stand series for spaces out there!

T he Glossopteris plate is excellent fossil preservation of the archetypical ‘sage’ shaped leaf embedded within the once soft matrix, creating a definitive display of leaves, and the reverse of this plate has a similarly beautiful display of Glossopteris Leaves exhibiting a lovely palette of colour.

Plants are multicellular, photosynthetic eucaryotes. The oldest known land plant body fossils are Silurian in age. Fossil root traces of land plants are known back to the Ordovician era. The Devonian was the critical time interval during which land plants flourished, and Earth experienced its first “greening” of the land. The earliest land plants were small and simple and probably remained close to bodies of water. By the Late Devonian, land plants had evolved large, tree-sized bodies, and the first-ever forests appeared.

Glossopteris is probably the most familiar fossil leaf...
