About the Item

This remarkable fossil plate preserves two exceptionally well-articulated brittle stars dating back an estimated 450 million years to the Ordovician period. Each specimen displays beautifully with long radiating arms extending across the natural limestone surface, their delicate structure frozen in time and preserved in striking detail. The preservation is superb, with crisp definition of both the central discs and the slender arms, creating a vivid snapshot of prehistoric marine life. Fossil plates featuring multiple individuals of this quality are rare, and their presence together on a single slab enhances both the scientific and aesthetic value of the piece. The natural limestone matrix provides excellent contrast, accentuating the geometry of the fossils and giving the entire plate strong visual appeal. Sizable and balanced, this specimen is both scientifically important and highly decorative. Its combination of age, preservation, and presentation ensures it will stand out as a centerpiece among natural history acquisitions. Weight: 1.94 lb.
