Collection of 10 Natural Mineral Specimens

About the Item

A varied and fascinating collection of 10 natural mineral specimens, ex. private British collection. Each presented on an exclusive small painted display plinths, this group contains a range of impressive cabinet specimens. Highlights of the collection include a vibrant blue chrysocolla specimen originating from the Congo, the stone of wealth and wisdom citrine, and a large desert rose selecting crystal formation. Further details below: (left to right) Malachite Named for its distinctive form resembling a bunch of grapes, this vibrant green, copper-based mineral has a beautiful variation of natural tone, with highlights of white. The bulbous botryoidal clusters vary in size and shape, naturally formed over thousands of years. Prized since ancient times as an ornamental stone, deposits of malachite are found across the globe but specimens from Congo offer some of the world’s finest. Chrysocolla Showcasing a blue-green colour, chrysocolla is a minor ore of copper. It has an opaque surface and vitreous to dull lustre, often found in rounded masses, vein fillings or crusts. The meaning of chrysocolla is communication, teaching, and transformation. Citrine This orange or yellow variety of quartz, with a similar structure to amethyst, gets its name from the old French word for lemon. Known as the stone of weath and wisdom, its warm colour is said to be a gift from the sun and is typically used to bring warmth and brightness to interiors. It has been a popular gemstone since ancient times, deeply appreciated and used as jewellery by Chinese emperors. Calcite Formed over millions of years, this natural calcite specimen showcases spectacular dogtooth scalenohedral crystals – also known as dogtooth spar – and has a light coloured, almost translucent quality. Quartz points Known for being one of the most abundant and versatile gemstones, quartz is celebrated for its range of colours, captivating inclusions, and exceptional clarity and transparency. Formed over millions of years, this natural quartz specimen showcases spectacular rock crystals with a translucent quality evenly distributed across the large crystals. Desert rose Selenite, also known as satin spar, desert rose, or gypsum flower are four crystal structure varieties of the mineral gypsum. The specimen originates from the deserts of Mexico. Mounted on a plinth, this interesting formation would make for a decorative piece on display in any home, or perhaps for a collector. Salrose Derived from the French 'salt rose’, Salrose is an exquisite crystalline pink mineral originating from the Congo. This mineral specimen offers a diverse spectrum, ranging from delicate milky pink crystals to highly deep pink gem material. Due to the presence of Cobalt, Salrose has a rise to its distinct pink hues, providing an alluring finish. This spectacular group of mineral specimens have been hand-selected from British collections to create a unique set, ideal for use as natural sculpture in an interior. Arranged in any formation, they make striking decorative pieces for a collector’s cabinet or sideboard, showcasing wondrous specimens of natural history.
