Collection of 3 Large Natural Cabinet Minerals

About the Item

A collection of 3 large natural mineral specimens, each presented on an exclusive medium neoclassical style plaster plinth. Each impressive cabinet specimen, including a Chalcedony, rose quartz, and pyrite, has its only striking form and finish complimenting one another. This spectacular group of mineral specimens have been hand-selected from British collections to create a unique set, ideal for use as natural sculpture in an interior. Arranged in any formation, they make beautiful decorative pieces for a collector’s cabinet or sideboard, showcasing wondrous specimens of natural history. As displayed left to right: Chalcedony Many fragments of Chalcedony contain microscopic elements of other minerals, giving a range of colours. Its name derives from the ancient port of Turkey, which was once called Khalkedon in Asian Minor, where there were deposits. This clever specimen forms in cavities cracks, and through pre-existing rocks, in particular volcanic rocks. Due to chalcedony forming in various colours, it has been used for an array of decorative items over time, such as statues, sculptures, bowls, and, more commonly, jewellery. Rose quartz Known for being one of the most abundant and versatile gemstones, quartz is celebrated for its range of colours, captivating inclusions, and exceptional clarity and transparency. Formed over millions of years, this natural rose quartz specimen exhibits a pale pink colour with rose red hues evenly distributed across the raw mineral. Madagascar produces some of the finest optic to near-optic quartz. This specimen is evidence of the high quality minerals that form in the country. This is a mineral that has been cherished through the ages as a symbol of romantic love. Greek mythology tells the story of Aphrodite (Roman Venus) rushing to aid Adonis in his battle with Ares. She was cut by a thorn bush in the struggle and her blood mixed with that of the dying Adonis, dripping onto white quartz and staining it pink forever. Pyrite This natural specimen has a lustrous exterior that catches the light beautifully. Naturally formed over millions of years, this striking mineral specimen showcases a distinctive golden colour, typical of pyrite, for which its metallic lustre is famously named ‘Fool’s Gold’.
