Unique Porcelain Sculpture by Olivia Walker

Nest I, 2022 (Porcelain, C. 4.3 in. H x 6.7 in. W x 6.7 in. D., Object No.: 3922)
Olivia Walker works in porcelain to create pieces that explore the symbiotic relationship between growth and decay, as well as the relationship between nature and man-made. All of her works start by being thrown on the wheel, before being built upon with thousands of individually-applied fragments of porcelain. Many of her vessels are thrown and altered – they are cut away and reassembled in the leather-hard stage which allows her to deconstruct the form of the bowl and then build up a surface on this new form. Olivia starts from a set point on a bowl and lets these organic accretions spread out and grow – ‘eating through," or growing over the form beneath. They make reference to organisms such as coral and fungus, but remain abstract.
Olivia Walker was born in 1985 and lives and works in London. Her work was featured in numerous publications including Emerging Potters Magazine, Clay Craft...

Contemporary Ceramic Sculpture Grimilde Head by Vanessa Semaino
By Rossana Orlandi
Located in Milan, IT
The “Surolù” art works - this is artistic identity chosen by Vanessa Semaino - arise from the artist 's need to represent women’s condition today, particularly in their emotional states that confer their unique identities. These precious ceramic sculptures, entirely handcrafted and decorated, represent female Moor’s heads. They were conceived as an
expression of an introspective journey that relates Vanessa’s Sicilian origins and to her professional experience in the fashion stylistic field.
The artist introduces, for the first time, the repeated use of sociological themes of current relevance through a visually immediate language, represented in her art works with a contemporary pop aesthetic.
“Grimilde” is an artwork that addresses the dilemma of envy within the context of the seven deadly sins, through a representation that merges the wicked characters from fairy tales into a single figure. In it, there are recognizable references to Grimhilde, the witch from “Snow White”, the Queen of Hearts from “Alice in Wonderland,” and Cruella De Vil, all aimed at portraying envy in a world dominated by social media and the constant quest for approval and affirmation. The artwork is named after the evil queen from Snow White, and her figure is made evident by the turban that frames the face, emphasizing its features and wrinkled expression. The dress, with a black and white checkered pattern with red details, evokes that of the Queen of Hearts, as seen in the large red hearts decorating the crown, replacing the traditional acanthus leaves of typical Sicilian Moorish heads...

Korean Glass 25, a unique porcelain and glass sculpture by Choi Keeryong
By Choi Keeryong
Located in London, GB
Korean Glass 25, is a unique sculpture in clear glass and porcelain that is handblown, painted and cut by the South Korean artist, Choi Keeryong. The interior detail of the piece is handpainted in blue, red and green.
Keeryong is based in Scotland. His work is informed by his investigations into the similarities and cultural differences that we all experience in relation to the objects around us in contrast to where we live. Something he is has personally experienced living in another country.
In this collection, Keeryong has developed a process using the ancient Korean ‘Saggam’ pottery technique, which allows him to explore a state of ambiguity created for the viewer’s visual experience. Using delineating geometric patterns and counterfeit letters (meaningless Korean words) he combines his glass with found English teapots...

Striped Fold III, a Coral Parian Porcelain Sculptural Vessel by Steven Edwards
By Steven Edwards
Located in London, GB
Striped Fold III is a unique sculpture by the British artist Steven Edwards, created from white and coloured parian porcelain.
Steven Edwards is a ceramic artist whose work investigates the language of making through the materiality and physicality of clay. Fascinated by process-led making, he uses traditional techniques that provoke unanticipated outcomes, using clay as a medium that sustains the narrative of the making process. The resulting forms embody his interaction and manipulation of the clay using bespoke tools to explore the intrinsic properties of the material.
His creative practice starts by purposely placing clay under stress to reveal the natural tension and movement in its surface and form. Throughout the whole making process, he pushes, pulls, compresses and slices the material to provoke a reaction. The final forms are a combination of these making scenarios, translating a theme of duality in their appearance – the contrast of visual distortion and precision, the stillness and movement in form and the surface deception between synthetic and natural.
Whilst challenging and pushing his material to the limits, often using clay bodies in ways they are not designed for, Edwards purposely exploits unexpected outcomes. Creating a sense of unease, during the making his clay cracks and buckles, resulting in permanent scars that illustrate the extremes that have been asked of it. Purely aesthetic, these fissures within the surface are an important counter point to the idealised sugary-hued confectionery layered rings.
Edwards has exhibited his work at premiere contemporary design and craft shows including British Ceramics...
